I am always drawn to vintage illustrations…especially herbals.
One of my all time favorite illustrators is Elizabeth Blackwell and her incredible work published as “A Curious Herbal”.

While her illustrations and the heart felt detail behind them is wondrous, the fact that she went to work to publish these illustrations to help her husband out of debtors prison adds another layer of intrigue.
I use the opening page of her series as background and homage to this gifted, inspired artist. It makes me smile to think she might be very amused to know that her work, published in the mid 1700’s, lives on today in such a simple, but useful, form.

Endless thanks Mrs. Blackwell!

Ok…in case you just tuned in, we are on an Amy Duncan, fourcornersdesign.blogspot.com, roll around here….too many fabulous ideas not to share.
I am always on the search for innovative display suggestions for our products for our stores. Amy Duncan’s book, The Salvage Studio, is a treasure trove of creative solutions for organization and display.
My first favorite idea was perfect for flour sack towels: the Wooden Crib Rack
 Perfect for towels, papers, scarves.....
Amy gives you everything you need for both these projects, in perfect detail, in the book The Salvage Art Studio.
Next fabulous idea: the Tool Caddy Towel Rack
Ideal for towels on bottom and your favorite treasures on top
These are affordable, creative, out-of-the-ordinary ideas to make your displays inviting and unique.
Enjoy!

Just had the most wonderful day….Amy Duncan held a Valentine’s Day Card Making party at her beautiful home & studio. Amy transformed her living room in to a working studio for all, complete with trunks of goodies, tables of trinkets and piles of great papers…all for creating collages.
What used to be a dining room, is now a studio table!
Tables of treasures to play with
There is something magical about sitting around a table with kindred spirits…creating…working…planning…chatting…laughing…comparing life notes. Most of us work alone in our studios..this was a rare treat to come together and create in community.
Amy Duncan, our hostess and inspiration
Quilters call it “stitch and bitch”, I call it WONDERFUL!
I can show you a sample of some of the cards that were created, but I wish I could bottle the “mojo” and send that along as well.
 Some results from the day
Better yet, go get a group of friends together and do this on your own. Check out Amy’s blog for fabu ideas!

Is it just me, or is anything that helps me “remember” becoming increasingly useful and appreciated?
Granted, I am at that stage in life where if it isn’t on a post it or pinned to a board or openly showing on my magnet board, it’s lost in the ether. At first I have to say I found this frustrating…now I realize, it is another great opportunity to create little collage sets of information all around my home and studio. To that end, I just finished designing our new line of magnets.
As you all know, there are a lot of magnets out there. Which I actually find comforting…makes me feel like I am not the only one who has to keep life’s details on the front page in order to get them done. But I did find a few things lacking in most of the magnets out there…for example: they have to hold lots of paper and not slip off the board ( or refrigerator). And since these magnets are part of my new “absolutely can’t forget this” collage series, I wanted them to be fabulous looking…worthy of being featured on a daily basis. Which leads me to the gift packaging…who do you know that doesn’t need a charming and useful accessory to help manage daily life? I thought the tins did just the trick.
Please take a browse through our new MAGNETS! section on the website…and as always, enjoy!
