Holding Summer

Monday, August 26th, 2013

There is a slight chill in the air tonight…getting darker earlier….summer is fading.

It was a glorious one…rare in the Pacific Northwest to have so many days of consecutive sunshine…what a gift.

Been working like mad in the studio preparing for new fall designs…love working with the palette of Autumn. No pumpkins and scarecrows mind you, but how I love to collage with shades of rust and wheat and green….makes me want to put on a sweater. But as this wondrous summer fades, I didn’t want to lose that sense of tranquility that only the sun can bring. I was working on a set of magnets for myself…to remind me…to breathe, relax, flow and be at peace.

Liked them so much I thought I should share…so here they are….posted on my bulletin board and my never ending to-do lists…my zen magnets:)

Hope it helps!

don’t clean your studio!

Someone once asked me how I created my collages.

While I would have loved to wax poetic on the creative process (which changes daily in my view), the honest answer is that some of my favorite collage were total accidents.

I could tell you about the time my work table collapsed in the middle of a design deadline….my nerves were completely frayed….in a total freak out now that days of work had just piled into one nasty mess on my floor…when I looked over and saw that the very design I had been struggling with had just assembled itself in the most wonderful way.

Well a similar thing happened recently. In an effort to clean up my forever untidy studio, I had some elements on a table that holds my dried ferns and leaves under it’s glass top.

Since I always start with switchplate designs, once the collage was finished, I had a wonderful new fern design for my client and for Full Circle Studio.

But wait, there’s more.

Now that I am doing a line of specialty pillows, a fabric from this collage was also made in to a large, square, cotton, delicious pillow!

And all this from a mess in my studio!

Discovering Passion…a Goddess infusion!

Monday, September 17th, 2012

There is no greater gift to give yourself…and your creative spirit…than to infuse your work with the talent and inspiration from other artists.

Let’s face it, owning a business is not for the faint of heart. Much as I love..repeat LOVE…working away in my studio, I do find that there are days when life can feel a bit solitary….most of my conversation is with myself… or my dogs. So when the time came to hatch the new designs and do some much needed photography for the line, I called Tiffany Kirchner Dixon…a photographer I have admired for some time.

Of course, I couldn’t get Tiffany right away…not only is she much in demand, but she had some Rodeo Ridin’ to do this summer, so I had to wait. Yes, she was riding in the rodeo!!!! (Oh if I had a nickel for every time I heard that excuse!) We set a date and Tiffany gave me the address of Farm & Frills in Buckley, WA, our location for the shoot.

Farm & Frills in Buckley Washington

All I can say, is that I showed up to this amazing shop, a converted gas station, with Tiffany’s aqua blue vintage truck parked outside and had one of the best times of my life. I handed over my goods to Tiffany and Kris ( owner of Farm & Frills) and they worked all day creating some of the most beautiful still lifes I could ever imagine for Full Circle Studio. These gifted, talented, creative Goddess/artists just poured their talent and taste right into my products and captured the spirit of what I want FCS to feel like for my customers. The photography is featured in our new catalogue and throughout the website.

Endless thanks for a creative infusion that is still bubbling!
